Bittersweet!

Well this post would have been titled just Sweet, had it not been for a certain law enforcement officer being a jerk. But I will not ruin the ending.

Thursday night Me, J, Y and DS had a planning session at their house. We weren’t sure if we wanted to go at all this weekend because the weateher forecast said it would rain on saturday and that it would really cold on sunday. These did not sound like ideal conditions to go camping, so we decided to rent a camping cabin which is a very rustic cabin and just chance the weather.  Our destination was the village of Frisco on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks. Our planning session lasted long into the night with us making extensive lists of stuff we were going to take with us.

Friday, we got a late start becasue DS ‘s meeting ran late , but we finally started our adventure. On the way, we nearly ran out of gas b/d J kept taking exits that did not have gas stations, but we did make it into Frisco without too much more adventure. It was weird to drive on the Outer Banks in the dark and we had no idea what the view around us was really like.  Our camping cabin turned out to be very cool, it had a two rustic platform beds and a table and an air conditioner. The air conditioner which seemed like a luxury at first was actually a necessity in the humid sea air.  That night, Y and I went to bed while the boys stayed up smoking cigars on the porch.

Saturday morning , I was the first one to wake up and I decided to explore the campground. It was a beautiful morning with warm temperatures and a pleasant sea breeze. Right as I stepped out of the cabin I reaized we were only a few feet away from the Pamlico sound . The sound is just beautiful and teeming with life, I saw a cottonmouth(water moccasin) and all sorts of really cool birds. After breakfast we wandered around Hatteras Island and checked out the talled Lighthouse in America -Hatteras Lighthouse and wandered along the beach. The thing that impressed me about Hatteras Island was the fact that most of tha seashore was protected and undeveloped, which is very unusual for coasts in the east. On the beach, we saw plovers, sea cucumbers, tons of crabs, skate eggs , different types of sea anemones and a horse shoe crabs. We also ate a delicious lunch of She Crab soup and calamari and Y made us a special mexican beer cocktail.

Saturday afternoon we checked out the little villages on the island and went to the Pea Island Wildlife refuge. We saw different species of turtles and some river otters  and also some ospreys. That night we made a yummy camp dinner of steak and potatoes and chilled on our porch.

Sunday, the weather did indeed get really bad. We spent the morning exploring the southern end of Hatteras Island and then headed north to Kitty Hawk and Kill Devils Hills. At Kitty Hawk we checked out the the famous Wright Brothers memorial and saw the spot where they launched into flight for the first time. It was really neat to see  how scientific they were in constructing their glider and their flyer.

The weather was getting really bad now, so we just grabbed lunch at the Pier House restaurant of fresh seafood and Bloody Marys and headed back home. On the way….here comes the bitter part… we passed a cop who had pulled soemone over and J had to veer out into oncoming traffic to not run into him and we nearly ran into the oncoming car. But a few miles later the same cop pulled us over because we had not pulled into the other lane far enough and we were apparently “endangering the cops life” according to NC law. So J got a ticket for $ 36o  and our great trip had to end on a sour note.

Despite the ticket, I had a great beach weekend and it was fun to celebrate the end of my semester by a quick getaway.

The End

My finals are finally over! yaaaay!!!! It was a hell of a busy semester but I made it through! I don’t think I did as well as I did last semester but the overall results aren’t terrible. I felt like I had a lot going on this semester with wedding planning and dealing newer responsibilites at work. I also think it was just general burn out. I rewarded myself with a trip to the mall and I bought some headbands and some new shoes.

J and I celebrated last night by drinking margaritas and playing scrabble. Yes we are geeks. We know. Then I went out wiht my friend JE and we drank some more margaritas and I came home and got some good loving.

Now that my finals are over, I have no more excuses for slacking on wedding planning. Starting today, I am all about wedding plans.  I have had a few new ideas that I want to research and incorporate into our wedding:

1) I want to incorporate more indian stuff

2) I want to see if I can find a vendor for Marigolds or Calendulas

3) I want to find a way to make a kick ass electronic save the date card.

Summer Time and the Livin’s easy

I really wish my finals were over! I finished my 3 hardest ones last week and now I have 3 more to get through and then its the summer. I am so excited for this summer and since I’m such a geek I made a list of stuff I want to do this summer.  Here’s my summer list to cure my monday morning blues:

Go see the “Bodies” exhibit

Go to the pool on a random day

Go to the beach

Make two new summer cocktails

Make a new summer salad

Have a fun meal on our porch

Ride my bike in the park

Take a hike along Eno river with Layla

Get super lean legs and wear a new pair of boarding shorts

Learn to play the drums

Re decorate our bedroom

Redecorate our living room

Plan fun activities for our wedding

Take a trip to Utah (fingers crossed)

I feel better already! I’m going to try to update this list as things come up!

BBQ

I had a very relaxing weekend after a very hectic week. It hit the right balance between socializing and zoning out on the couch.  Friday afternoon, I did crazy weight training, I don’t know if it helped but I am still sore. J and I also went to a friend’s house for a BBQ and I took my summer corn salad.  One of our friends had set up a Wii so we played Wii most of the night. Although I had started out weak, by the end of night I was a major contender. J and I ended the night by meeting up some friends and playing pool.

Saturday, J and I went to register at Macy’s because my mom’s friends think I should register there. They actually have a pretty good registry program and they have nice discounts for registry completion as well! While we were there  J found a suit that he loved and we ended up buying his wedding suit as well. His suit is a greyish brown color; an artsy name for it would be “slate”.  I’m happy he found a suit and that he is actually excited to wear it. Sat night we had to go to another BBQ/Baby shower and I made another batch of my corn salad, only this time it was a huge hit and some people didn’t event get to try it.

I also had a cucumber/vodka drink that was amazing. According to the drink’s creator, it has Vodka, cucumber juice, lime juice, mint and ginger and I’m determined to recreate this soon. We also played Bocci in the dark and our hosts had set up their Wii on the lawn and a giant screen, so we played even more Wii.  Wheeeeee

Sunday, I relaxed and studied a little for a test and I also bought a cute brown dress. Overall, it was a fantastic weekend. Now its back to the grind of work and stressing for school.

Finals

Grrr….I am so stressed right now about finals. Plus when I get this stressed, things seem to go south between J and I too because neither of us handles stress very well. However after a rather difficult week, we have patched things up and come to several compromises. Lets hope we can stick to them.

Wedding plans are coming along. I’ve been procrastinating on making Save The Dates for a long time ,but I think after my finals, I will just have to *do the damn things*

Our guest list seems to be growing by the day. I really don’t mind, because most of the people I haven’t seen in a long time and they are old family friends who have watched me grow up. I don’t know whats going on with my inlaws guest list. I feel bad that most of the guest will be from my side of the family but we are also paying for the whole wedding and they aren’t even helping.

We have also asked my MIL for a guest list many times now and we haven’t heard anything from them. Ofcourse I know there will all of J’s family but I’m wondering how many friends they will invite.

Boone NC

J and I went to Boone last week for a mini getaway. It was really fun to be taking a sort of impromptu trip. We spend all day tuesday exploring the area and hiking around. We did a killer hike called Linville Gorge and the river at the bottom of the gorge was beautiful. We also drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a bit and of course we managed to get lost. That night we went swimming and hot tubbing and it felt so good after our day of hiking.

The next day, we went on another little hike around a lake and explored some more.  J had to go to his conference in the afternoon, so I just relaxed and in the evening J played with his band- Awake Behaving Animals. It was a really cool show and I think everyone there had a really good time. I was so proud of J and I was really excited to be the hot drummers fiancee.

Whats going on?

J:

Things are good. We are happy. I think our little bout of cold feel has settled down. I just mostly feel comfortable. I do worry, that since we are in the lull of planning a wedding, that maybe we aren’t focussing so much on what its going to mean to be married. I hope it doesn’t hit us all at once a week before the wedding.

Life:

I started a new hobby, scrapbooking. It was fun, I did a few pages of mine and J’s trip to the Bahamas. It was relaxing.

I have also joined a gym. My first session there is this afternoon. I am excited to get rid of this extra weight and get skinny. I want to look beautiful for my weddings.

School:

I was asked to give a speech recently for a big awards dinner. I think I did alright. It could have been better, but overall the content of my speech was the most personal and entertaining out of everyone’s there.

Wedding:

Here comes the madness-

Things that are done:

Venue

Registered at one place

Catering Quotes

Photography quotes

Cake quotes

Videography Quotes

Things That Need to Happen:

Dress

Invitations

Decorations

Coordination for the day of the wedding

Book Hotel rooms

Organize everyone for wedding party

Buy J’s Suit

Buy J’s ring

and so much more that just thinking about it makes me nauseous

Spring Forward

Today is a pretty fabulous day…at least for a monday. Work is slow, which means I have plenty of time to do some “research” and run errands. Also , after a really fun and relaxing weekend, its good to have a nice chill monday. I am actually excited and rejuvanated for school. I am extra motivated to be organized and be completely on top of my assignments for the rest of the semester.

Anyhoo, on wedding related notes, I emailed a lady who is starting a catering business in SLC to see if she can give me a quote. I am a little nervous because she doesn’t have a website, and for people like me, who are planning weddings from far away, websites are a must have. I really do not understand businesses, in today’s day and age who do not have a website. Weird. Anyway, the reason, I moved past the lack of website, is because she said she specializes in international and exotic cuisine. Since we are trying to do a fusion of Indian and non Indian food, I thought it would be worth a look. Fingers crossed!

I had a pretty bad panic attack about the planning too, I feel like nobody else is planning a wedding in a place where they don’t live, or don’t have family and neither do they have a wedding coordinator. I did manage to console myself by thinking, if companies can do business globally w/out any face to face contact, then I can definitely plan a party. Wonder if I can put that on my resume under “management and planning experience”? hmmmm…..

Life, Wedding

Reality Bites….not really

I actually feel productive these days, when it comes to wedding stuff. Though J and I have moments of uncertainty and cold feet, we are staying on course for the actual planning. I think a little nervousness, a dash of apprehension, maybe, is a good . Makes things much more exciting. It actually makes the wedding a big deal for us, rather than just a party for friends and family.

Now, what is all this planning I’ve doing , you ask? Well…we have a location, a real venue. We are getting married in the mountains in utah, which is something I wanted when I was younger and growing up there. It will be in Big Cottonwood Canyon, which is one of my favorite places in the world. It almost feels like home, when I think about the number of long drives, and hikes I’ve done up there.

It still feels like there is a lot to do and now that the wedding is 6.5 months away, it seems like a good idea to keep a log of things somewhere. That somewhere is here.

Life

Hi, Blog remember me, its your writer!!!

🙂 🙂

Wow, I can’t believe,I used to update this blog regularly. Seems like I don’t even have time nowadays to even sit down, let alone write out an entry!

Anyway, life is chugging along!!! Halloween was really fun this year. We kept with tradition and went to Franklin Street but we went with my friends Jen and Er instead of J’s lab people.

School is kicking my ass, I am so behind and I could do so much better at Math if I could make it to my class every single day instead of every other day. But it is hard to get up and be there so early. Also Marketing Mgmt would be a lot better if my parter didn’t suck.

J and I are good, we are what I call our usual selves. We have little fights about cleaning the apartment, or who is going to go pick up Wendys, but other than that we get along pretty swell. My friend and parents are good also but I feel like I don’t get to interact with anybody as much b/c of work and school…..grrrr…

Speaking of work , I have a new internship, hence access to computer during the workday, hence the social loafing and thus we have a new entry…..Wooooooo!!!!

Its a milestone….or not.
