Top 10 fave things about the holidays!

Girlie Girl and JJ’s top ten

This is a hard list for me to do this year, since this will be a very untraditional holiday season for me.

Food: It should be no surprise to anyone who reads this blog that Food is the favorite part of my existence. What better time than the holiday season to give in to my gluttonous(sp?) nature! Thanksgiving dinners, holiday parties, work parties, its all perfect!!! Also usually holiday events tend to be a little more formal, which means I get to dress up. Fashinonable and full! thats my motto for this season’s holidays!

Love/Family: So this is cheesy, but the holidays really are about family and loved ones, all the other things on this list basically revolve around them. I am going to miss J so much this year for christmas and thanksgiving and I’m also going to miss my dad because he is not going to India with us :(. And its not just family , its also family friends and boring relatives and whiny bratty cousins, all these things are charming during the holidays. It makes the house bustle with activity and laughter.

okay, i just made myself puke from my own sappiness…..

Wacky Rituals/Traditions: I know every family has their own weird unique ones, that defines them, so I’ll just list some of my favorite ones.
A)My mom and her best freind celebrate thanksgiving togehter every year and every year they choose a different cuisin, so we’ve had chinese thanksgiving, indian thanksgiving, thai thanksgiving, regular thanksgiving and creole thanksgiving and many more. Not all of them turned out great, but it was always great fun to see what each years theme would be

B)J and I go to the mall before christmas together and buy our selves a present, something extravagant or small that we’ve lusted after but haven’t bought because it wasn’t practical.

C) We watch sappy holiday movies

D) For Thanksgiving (since J and I started living together) we plan our menu together and J actually gets really involved and grcoery shopping and cleaning the house becomes fun activities.

New Years Eve: Its my favorite party of the year!!! I can’t remember a single band new year’s eve party. I get to dress up , get completely wasted and then make out like crazy with J in public at midnight and then hug everyone!!!!Once I even drank a whole bottle of champagne by myself, why? cuz i could and it was New years. Woooooooooooooo. J and I are hoping this is atleast one holiday we’ll be able to spend together and make out sloppily in public. Hey , it works for us k

Christmas/Thanksgiving/New Year’s Day aka The morning after!: I guess we can call this A) Thanksgiving, B)Christmas C) New Years Day

A) Thanksgiving Day is usually started with a sense of dread in my stomach. How am I ever going to finish cooking that much food and am I going to be able to eat as much as i want? Cooking the turkey and checking on it 8 billion times and then after hte big meal taking a nice long nap is my fave part of turkey day!

B) Opening presents, clearing up wrapping paper and eating a big breakfast. Thats the right way to celebreate Jesus

C) New Years Day, Two words, Hang over, and then Brunch with friends, where none of us can speak cuz our voices are hoarse from screaming and really we don’t want to discuss things that transpired the night before.

Presents:Okay, so I know, presents make our holidays commercial and consumeristic and takes away from the real meaning of the holidays, yada yada, yada….but really is there a single person who doesn’t enjoy opening a brightly wrapped present. And its the perfect opportunity to splurge on something ridiculously expensive for the people you love!

Ornaments: i love christmas tree ornaments, i don’t really buy that many of them, but i love walking through the aisles during christmas and seeing the really nice ones with all the detail and the shiny stuff. Also J and i have decided to follow his family’s tradition of buying each other a cute and symbolic ornament each year, we also get one for the laylster

Shopping: I don’t think I even need to explain this in detail. Shopping without having to feel guilty! Infact it even becomes a “to do”. How awesome is that, plus the malls are bustling and I can talk J into going with me and he has to, cuz he has to figure out presents for his fam.

Decorations: Call me cheesy, but I love christmas decorations. I’m not a big halloween, or other holiday decorator, but I don’t what it is about Christmas that makes me gush over $1 Santa plates at Target. I also love seeing Poinsettias in living room and christmas lights on rows of houses. Especially after a light snow fall. I also don’t mind the reindeers and Snowmen and giant Santa’s. Although I can’t stand the nutcrackers.

Holiday Travel: Now I know some people hate airports and travelling this time of year, but not me. I love being on the plane with other (generally) happy people who are excited about making their yearly journey to see their friends and loved ones. People are little nicer in the lines, the drab airport is decorated, you can see wrapped presents peeking out of someone’s carryon and of course my own excitement of seeing my family when the plane descends. Sadly this year, all this is going to make me depressed, because I will be travelling for business. I guess i’ll be rude grouchy people at the airport, who everyone will refer to as Scrooge.

Typical Monday

So this morning, while brushing my teeth, I thought of the most marvelous topic that I wanted to blog about. I planned out the whole entry in my head and made a mental note, that I was definitely going to blog today.

Well, as it always happens, I got to work and did remember that I wanted to blog ,but I’ve completely drawn a blank on the topic. I remember thinking about it, but I can’t recall what it was exactly that I wanted to write.

In other news, J is out of town this week, atleast till Wed! Boo Hoo, I miss him. Actually I didn’t really miss him terribly till last night. It was nice to have the computer, TV, stereo, nintendo, kitchen, bathroom, bed, closet, layla all to myself! Woo Hoo!!!! But going to bed last night, made me wish, he was around to cuddle with and now especially waking up without cuddling in the morning sucks!

I’m such a baby!

And now that i’ve grossed everyone out with sappiness, I’m off to finish my lunch.

Life

Settling In

Now that everything seems to have mostly fallen into place, I’m finally relieved. But i’m also really drained, being constantly stressed out over the last month has really taken a toll on my life, especially aspects like sense of humor, likeability, wise-assishness :). One more week and then its off to Chicago for me to train for the new job.

Its turning out to be a very odd end of the month. J will be at SFN from Saturday through Thursday, and I leave the following Sunday for Chicago, come back, get through J’s surgery, and then I’m off to India.

I’m going to miss J terribly, Africa was so hard and now India will seem longer, simly because of all the added on trips. I hope we survive the stress, especially me of working and studying at the same time. I will have no time for a life- gym, shopping, gasp(!) ANTM…..

I want January to be here already and for us to have moved out of our weird phase.

Travel

Cruisin’

Got back into town last night. Sooo tired. Quick recap:

Friday:

J and I made it to Ft.Lauderdale, after nearly missing our flight. It was close but we were the last people on the plane and strangely, the seats assigned to us were also the very last row on the plane.I guess Delta knows its passengers

At Ft. Lauderdale we met up with K and JC and took a cab to the cruise. It took forever to make our way through the lines and actually get on the damn boat, but I guess its just normal regulations for cruising. We had lunch and found our cabin and realized we had BUNK BEDS.

Friday night, we hung out on the deck, and the bar and since both parties were fairly tired, we didn’t party too hardy after Dinner. We did see the show revue, where K and I cracked up everytime the male dancers would come out in their little outfits.

Saturday:

We docked at Nassau and took the Sea Captain out to the ocean for some snorkeling. There were some tense moments for me since I ‘m not the strongest swimmer and being in the open sea was a little nerve wracking, but hey, I made it.

After snorkeling we went to the Blue Lagoon Island and had lunch and bought some stuff from the gift shop and relaxed by the lagoon. JC and K left at 2 but J and I hung around and explored the island.

Made it back to the Dock with 1/2 and hour to spare, so we bought some conchs and duty free liquor! Whoooo!!

Sat night, all of us got crazy drunk and J, JC and I did Karaoke. JC was the best , followed by me and then J. J and I were kinda upset with each other, its too bad it happened over vacation, but we made up so it wasn’t terrible.

Sunday morning, We left the boat, rented a car and drove along the coast up to Orlando. We stopped at the Cape Canaveral National sea Shore to check out some alligators(1) and Manatees(0) but we did see some really cool herons, ospreys, pelicans , scrub jays etc. JC and K also saw a bobcat. In orlando, that night, we just hung around the hot tub and ate Pizza

Monday, We drove to St. Pete’s to the Salvador Dali museum and hung out in their cute little downtown. JC and Kim took us to the airport straight after and we hung out at bar there till it was time for our flight to leave and that was the end of the vacay.

Good Drunken times!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Blah news

Have a new job prospect on the horizon. I need to set up a meeting. Hopefully it will happen tomorrow . Grrrrrrrr…………

Financial Aid is taking forever to get their shit together. Today they told me that I won’t know anything till the 20th this month.

Frustrating.

Life

Halloween

I am still recovering from last night. I know its almost two in the afternoon and I still feel a little drunk. We hung out on Franklin Street with the usual crew and hit up some bars and a party. Overall a great halloween 2005, much better than last year.

Highlights

* My Devil Costume, it worked out really well, other than the fact that the material made me look thicker than I am, but it was okay, cuz I got a lot of catcalls and J was all over me in a good way.

* J’s Cheney and W costume got him lot of compliments, although, I was really close to hitting him towards the end when he would not stop putting the damn thing in people’s faces

*Y’s costume was fantastic, I am so impressed by her sewing skills

*Y and my sword/pitchfork fight at the cave, while the whole bar cheered. I won! Yaaay. And right after a guy came up to us and whispered “That was hot”

*Making it to the abandoned party, scoring free beer and seeing RS, M and J bob for apples

*Hanging out in Hell. Tee Hee, couldnt’ resist. RS wandering around and asking people, where hell was? and everyone was so drunk, that the question was taken very seriously.

*Negotiating for a cab, cabbie being nice, being a jackass, being nice again and everyone in the cab apologising.

*J and I coming home together after debauchery and plenty of temptations.

Happy Halloween everyone
