Sailor boy Fashion Pirate

Earlier this week J, Bun and I were getting ready to head out and run errands. And while I was getting ready, I asked J if he would help Bun get ready. Father and Son came up with this outfit. Although the boots, belt and hat are all Bun’s pick! I have to say, I kinda love his style! He is wearing Khaki courdrouys (my pick) Red Shirt ( My pick ) Grey Stripe Cardigan(J’s pick)  J’s belt looped around cardigan, Green Rain boats and sailor hat (Bun’s pick). We did convince him to take off the belt before we headed out of the house because I really didn’t want to deal with it falling down, once we were out and about.

The pics are super blurry because he would not be still and we were in a hurry to get out the door.

P.S Please not that the boots are on the wrong foot and he would not let us fix it. He put them on himself after all

Food and Drinks, Funny, Toddler

While Bun was napping this afternoon, I walked into our kitchen and found this.

Apparently he had picked out ingredients from the pantry and filled his wagon with it. I like that it looks like it could be ingredients for a middle eastern dish- chickpeas, tomatoes, cumin, oregano and chicken broth. And also the ball, an essential component of any great dish.

Your quickfire challenge is to make something with these ingredients in 6.35 minutes. Top Chef Masters Season 23 here comes Bun.

Toddlers are funny. Yeah.

Contact Solution v. Me. The Epic Battle

Sometimes it hits you like a ton of bricks or more like a squirt of contact lens solution that staying at home with a toddler is really staying at home alone. At fifteen months your toddler will only cry harder if you are also crying in pain.  This is the story of how the contact lens solution ruined our day

It started out like any other day only this morning Bun was grumpier and crankier than usual when he woke up, probably something to do with not eating any of his dinner last night. But still the morning was chugging along pleasantly until Bun decided he absolutely had to drag stuff out of our pantry. Meanwhile I was rubbing my eyes all morning since allergies were bugging me and one more hard rub and the contact came out in my hand. Out of my other good eye, I spotted the new contact solution the eye doctor had recently given me and thought,”Wow,I’ll give this one a try” So I did the contact washing routine and right when I popped it in, it felt like my eyes were on fire. On Cue Bun chose this moment to  empty a pasta packet all over the kitchen floor and started bawling because he realized he probably shouldn’t have done that. And thats how at 8:30 am on a Wednesday morning mother and son stood sobbing in the kitchen.

I took the contact out, washed it out with water and then tried putting it in again and succeeded and then the pain was just too unbearable so I had to down on the floor and by some superhuman strength I managed to open my eye, stick my finger in and yank that contact out.  By now Avi was crying harder and I was sobbing in pain and my poor tormented eye was bright red. It was at this point it hit me that I should read the directions where it clearly said- “Do not insert into eyes for atleast 6 hours after soaking. Contacts need 6 hours to neutralize.”

So now I have one contact in my eye, stuck at home for 6 hours since I can’t drive and honestly I’m too scared to put the contact back in at all today. I have no idea where my glasses are. Probably at my parents house somewhere.  Oh and did I mention the extra grumpy toddler.

Motherhood didn’t come with directions, but seriously, I should have at least thought about glancing at the directions to the contact solution.

Random Post

I forgot to post this photo from our smoky mountain trip, but I laughed and laughed when I saw this. The funny thing is J and I did eat and got gas there, we only saw the sign after we had already had some *yummy* gas station food and filled up our tank.

Yes, I know I am easily amused!

Mulder is out there

Yes! Yes! Yes!!! Just the news I needed to help me deal with my little emo funk from yesterday! I just found out that there is a new X-files movie coming out this summer. I am the biggest X files geek ever and I am forever hopeful that someday Mulder and Scully will get together! Although I would much prefer that Mulder aka David Duchovny…ahem…got with me…but thats probably not gonna happen! Anyway, now I can’t wait for July 08 when the movie hits the theatres. I have heard rumors that the official trailor has been leaked but I couldn’t find a good enough version on youtube. I’ll continue my search. Meanwhile, seriously people….The truth is out there!!!

My Idea of a Low Cal Lunch

Like most people, February is still too early for New Year’s resolutions to fade away,so I’ve been slogging away at eating healthy and consuming less calories. I try to read other people’s inspirational weight loss stories in Fitness Magazine or Self, or Shape, you know, the ones who do Cardio for 45mins-60mins a day 5 days a week, plus hike 3 times a week, and do yoga or pilates 3 times a week and get motivated and it does zero, zilch to get me off my butt! You know why? I’m just lazy, I’d rather sit at my desk at work and update my blog than do those handy exercieses that Fitness Magazine suggests you do at your desk!

Eat this    +     = 345 cals

Eat all this    +    + 1/2   +   = 340 cals

However, I have been trying to watch what I eat and keep a food journal in my head and tally up what I eat! I especially read Glamour magazine’s little column called “Eat this or all of this ” where Glamour shows you a humungous plate of something unhealthy like a plate of fettuci0ne alfredo and then suggests that you can eat three healthy, delicious thing or the same or fewer calories, like steak, baked potato and a veggie. Anyway, this was my rather…um…false interpretation of this at lunch. The plan was to

Eat This:

One can of Slim Fast Chocolate shake – 175 Cals and One serving of Planters Trail Mix-170 Cals for a total of 345 Calories

or Eat all this….which I did happily

1 small bag lays potato chips – 150 calories

1/2 can slim fast- 85 calories

1 milky way mini- 40 calories

1 teaspoon mixed nuts (extra salty…mmm) 65 calories

for a grand total of …ding ding ding…340 Calories

So really, I did a lot better than the healthy option!!!

I’m sure this is the way to Weight loss…not! Oh well, its friday and I deserve chips!!!
